How to Work a Bright Wedding Colour Palette. It is absolutely no surprise to anyone that I love a bright colour palette. Not only are there more flowers to choose from, the colour combos are infinite.

When it comes to weddings, colour is one of the most powerful tools you have to express personality, set the mood, and make your day truly unforgettable. While pastels and neutrals have long been staples of wedding palettes, there’s something unapologetically joyful and refreshing about going bold.

Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of designing a wedding bursting with energy and character, thanks to a fearless colour combination: electric blue, hot pink, and sunshine yellow. It was a palette that popped in every photo, radiated personality, and perfectly captured the couple’s fun-loving spirit.

Why Bold Colours Work So Well

How to Work a Bright Wedding Colour Palette. Bright colours, when used thoughtfully, can elevate a wedding from beautiful to unforgettable. They:

  • Create impact: Bright hues naturally draw the eye and add a wow factor.
  • Reflect personality: For couples who want to break away from tradition and embrace their individuality, bold palettes are a powerful form of self-expression.
  • Bring joy: There’s an undeniable sense of fun that comes with a saturated colour story—it sets the tone for a celebration full of energy and love.

The Power of Three: Electric Blue, Hot Pink & Yellow

This particular wedding was all about contrast and cohesion. Each colour brought something different:

  • Electric blue added richness and edge—a grounding tone that still felt playful.
  • Hot pink brought the romance, but with a twist—more bold statement than blushing bride.
  • Yellow gave warmth and happiness, tying everything together with a sunny vibe.

Together, they balanced each other beautifully, creating vibrant tablescapes, striking floral arrangements, and joyful little moments throughout the venue—from bridesmaids’ dresses to signage to confetti explosions.

Tips for Working a Bright Palette

If you’re inspired to go bold for your own event, here are a few ways to make a bright palette sing:

  1. Start with balance: Anchor your palette with one or two main colours and let the others play supporting roles.
  2. Work with textures: Layering textures (think velvet table runners, glossy glassware, soft florals) helps prevent a bright palette from feeling too harsh.
  3. Consider the setting: Bright colours pop best in natural light or open, airy venues. A neutral or minimalist backdrop can help them stand out even more.
  4. Coordinate, don’t match: Your wedding doesn’t have to look like a rainbow exploded. Strategic pops of colour—like a vibrant bouquet or bold stationery—can be just as impactful as full-on colour saturation.

Other Bright Palettes We Love

While electric blue, hot pink, and yellow stole our hearts this time, there are so many other bold combinations worth exploring. One of my all-time favourites? Bright red and hot pink. It’s romantic with a high-fashion edge—dramatic, modern, and totally fearless.

Other eye-catching pairings include:

  • Turquoise and coral – beachy but elevated.
  • Fuchsia and orange – fiery and energetic.
  • Lime green and lavender – unexpected but fresh.

Don’t Be Afraid to Break the Rules

The best part of working with bright colours is that you’re already breaking from tradition—so lean into it. Let the palette tell your story. Use it to bring out your personality as a couple, to surprise your guests, and to fill your day with colour in every sense of the word.

So here’s your permission slip: go bold, have fun, and make it yours.
